St Agnes AFC first team players showed their dedication to the club on Saturday evening when they took part in a Sponsored Waxing Evening held at the Railway Inn, St Agnes.
Several weeks before the event the original 'volunteered' victim Gavin Bennett bravely offered to have his back waxed and planning for the evening commenced with all first team players helping to raise sponsorship in anticipation of watching Gavin suffer!
The evening arrived and, as with all these sorts of events, when beautician Christina Pope of 'Fingers & Toes', St Agnes arrived with her pot of hot wax other 'volunteers' began to come forward! In total 6 members of the St Agnes AFC first team rose to the challenge (eagerly encouraged by their team mates) and braved the waxing with Paul Luke having his underarms done, Martin Dunstan his chest, Sam Hatfield, Mike Burn, and Gavin Counter their legs, and of course Gavin Bennett his back. The cries of pain from each victim were greeted with glee and Christina was assisted in her mammoth waxing task by 'trainee' Mel Gilbert.
The evening concluded with a Raffle and Race Night with the total proceeds to St Agnes AFC club funds exceeding £550. St Agnes AFC Chairman Mandy Kimmins commented, "It is great to see the players instigating and supporting club fundraising events. £550 is a lot of money to St Agnes AFC and will help us fund the Astro-Turf Training our 3 men's team use throughout the winter evenings. We are very lucky to have a group of players who don't just want to turn up and play football for the club, but are prepared to actively help to put something back!"
