U18's County Cup
St Agnes AFC Under 18's put in a spirited performance in their first round fixture in the County Under 18 Rathbone Trophy.
Man of the match St Agnes AFC Captain Sam Hatfield lead the Respect handshake at the commencement of the fixture, which was played in difficult weather conditions.
The first half saw Mullion the stronger side and, with the wind at their backs, they scored the opening goal early in the first half. St Agnes rallied and defended well against the difficult wind to leave the score 1-0 at half time. The second half saw St Agnes come out the stronger side using the wind to create all sorts of pressure on the Mullion goal, but saw their efforts frustrated when a player was correctly sent off for dissent within 10 minutes of the 2nd half starting by referee Steve Toottle who was fair and consistent throughout.
The 10 men of St Agnes rose to the challenge and were quickly rewarded when a fine strike by Thads Vingoe found the back of the Mullion net to equalize the score. St Agnes continued to pressure with Mark Mitchell's strike thwarted by the goal post, Adam Coveney striking wide, and Jordan Maloy over the bar. Both teams battled well with the score 1-1 at full time.
Extra time started, but the deadlock continued with the score remaining 1-1 after extra time. An exciting penalty shoot out followed with Mullion taking the match at 5-4 on penalties. St Agnes AFC wish Mullion success in the next round!
