Kilkhampton 3-4 St Agnes (Ladies)

League Cup

Kilkampton 1-1 St Agnes (FT)
Kilkampton 1-1 St Agnes (AET)
St Agnes won 4-3 on penalties!

St Agnes made the trip to Kilkampton for the 1/4 final of the Cornwall Ladies League Cup for their first fixture since November. Having lost 10 players at the beginning of the season to injury, babies, travelling, etc, the 2009/10 season was always going to be a tough one especially with their promotion to Division 1.

Fielding a bare 11 players St Agnes started well with the slope in their favour and their pressure was rewarded as a Kilkampton player attempted to clear the line but scored an own goal. Both teams battled well with many missed opportunities from both sides and the half time score remained 1-0 to St Agnes.

The second half started with Kilkampton taking the upper hand and scoring to even the scoreline within minutes of the opening whistle. As the second half progressed the St Agnes lack of match fitness and substitutes began to show with players injured and long periods with only 9 players on the pitch with others being treated! St Agnes had a goal disallowed when Lyndsey Cowl took a free kick which Tracie Burley ran through onto and placed in the bottom corner of the net only for it to be ruled offside and the full time finished 1-1.

Extra time was played with neither team able to break the deadlock. Kilkampton played well and were unlucky not to take the lead, but for a goal line clearance from St Agnes player of the match defender Jo Burn.

Penalties followed with both keepers in good form and the penalty scores even at 3-3 as the last of the first 5 Kilkampton players stepped up to strike high and hard only for St Agnes keeper Julie Windram to tip it over the bar with both hands and carry her team through to face Callington in the semi-final.

St Agnes AFC would be delighted to hear from any ladies interested in joining their team, players of any ability welcome, training at St Agnes AFC on Wednesday evenings at 6.15pm. Contact Mandy Kimmins on 07974 370666 for more details.
