Newquay Celtic 3-6 St Agnes
St Agnes Ladies opened their season with a good 6-3 win against the depleted new side Newquay Celtic playing away at St Columb Minor.
St Agnes dominated the first half and took the lead when a corner ball was headed home by Rachel Blackham, and the second goal was an almost identical copy from a corner with Rachel Blackham again heading the ball home. St Agnes let Newquay through with the outstanding India Savage capatalising and scoring. Lyndsey Cowl then scored for St Agnes leaving the score line 1-3 at half time.
Just after the break Lyndsey Cowl scored the goal of the game striking a long hard shot high into the top corner. Newquay continued to battle well and scored (2-4). Tracie Burley then scored for St Agnes when her first shot was parried by the keeper and she headed it home (2-5). Newquay then pounced as St Agnes failed to clear their line and a goal mouth scramble ensued with them scoring (3-5). St Agnes then scored the last goal of the match when a cross from Meena Reid, playing her first game in St Agnes colours, was picked up by 16 year old Kerry Penrose in her first game of Ladies football and knocked home (3-6).
Newquay Celtic should be encouraged by their performance and the skills of some of their younger players, when up to full capacity they will be a side to challenge within the League.
St Agnes are delighted to welcome to their squad this season Charlotte Howell, Helen Rogers and Vicki Stone all previously of the former Holmans Ladies side and Meena Reid formerly of Penzance/Truro and St Blazey.
Any Ladies, 16 years and above, of any ability interested in joining St Agnes AFC Ladies are encouraged to contact Mandy Kimmins on 07974 370666 or email bolsterpaper@gmail.com.
