Against all odds and with a difficult season behind them St Agnes Ladies are thrilled to record a 1-0 victory at home against Callington who were so far unbeaten this season!
The first half was an evenly matched game with both teams battling well, but but not creating much. Callington were awarded a penalty with a hand ball in the area, but St Agnes keeper Julie Windram was in great form effortlessly parrying the well struck ball away. The half time score 0-0.
St Agnes began the 2nd half brightly pressurising the Callington goal to no avail with Callington defending bravely and breaking on the St Agnes goal, but finding the St Agnes back four Jo Burn, Jainey Curnow, Lyndsey Cowl and Kathy Woolson solid in defence of their goal. Half an hour into the second half midfielder Kirsty Dilley placed an excellent ball out wide to forward Tracie Burley who beat two defenders and placed the ball hard and high over the Callington keeper.
The longest 15 minutes then occurred with both teams eager to secure a result. Callintgon came very close to equalising, but for a superb intuitive save off the line by defender Jo Burn, and the Callington keeper pulled off an excellent save from St Agnes forward Tracie Burley who struck a high lob in the dying minutes of the 2nd half. The final score 1-0 to St Agnes who are thrilled after 7 years to reach their first ever final!
